A Thousand Highs and A Million Lows

Training horses can bring a thousand highs and a million lows, it really can be such a humbling game and makes you appreciate those days when horses win or run well all the more. Since Saratoga we have been through a lean spell to say the least but at least the two year olds seem to have got over their coughing and all the horses look well. This weekend sees us have three runners. Ithastobegeorge runs in a first level allowance race tomorrow in which he has drawn the rail. George ran a rather lackluster fourth in the same condition last time out but returned with a dirty scope, he has been training very well into this race and seems nicely aggressive in his training, I am looking for a better result this time around.

Scribbling Sarah will have her second attempt at first level allowance company sprinting on the turf on Sunday and I am hoping the rain that has been forecast stays away. Sarah really needs to hear her feet rattle on the turf and so a genuinely fast surface will be needed. The form from her first attempt at this condition has worked out very well with the second and third going on to win their next races and the turf was a little softer than listed when she ran a credible fourth last time.

On Monday we are racing in New York and Craving carats will run in a mile claiming race again on the grass, he is our first horse for Donegal Racing and has rather lost his way in the latter part of this year. He seems to be training well and I am hopefully he will find this easier competition to his liking. He is a small horse who will need a nice clean trip and hopefully will get his, Irad Ortiz will take the ride and will ride most of my entries this week. I feel Irad has really stepped up this year and think both he and his younger brother Jose are in the process of becoming top class riders

Later in the week I am planning on running Finns Quest and Canal Six who both worked extremely well yesterday, Canal Six is going to run in the Joseph A Gimma stake for two year old fillies on Saturday. This is New York Bred showcase day and although still a maiden I believe she deserves a shot in this company having run two excellent seconds at Saratoga over the vastly too short a distance of five and a half furlongs, Saturday will see her face a group of strong fillies but over seven furlongs which I think will suit her perfectly.
